Jonathan Drouin noticed it right from the start.Drouin, who signed a one-year contract with the Avalanche this offseason, has played for teams that missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in five of the past seven seasons. He knew that signing with Colorado was going to be a different experience. This is a club that in 2023-24 has simple expectations — win the championship. It didn’t take long for him to see why.“It was the informal (pre-training camp) skates,” Drouin said. “Sometimes the informal skates are kind of relaxing and just going through the motions, but it’s not that kind of skate here. Guys are trying to get better every day. You see guys pushing each other right away.“I think it’s great that the bar is set that high. I think the expectations are high for the fans and the people who follow us. They are high for us, too. You feel it. You can feel that hunger. It’s not just we are trying to make the playoffs. We want to go far.”Drouin is one of several key new additions for the Avs...Travis Hunter, Henry Blackburn hugged it out, bowled for charity this week

Travis Hunter and Henry Blackburn didn’t just hug it out. The CU Buffs and CSU Rams rivals bowled it out together earlier this week.“For the people that love to see negativity, this ain’t a negative video, man,” Hunter told Blackburn in the video, which was posted to the CU two-way star’s YouTube channel early Thursday evening.“Just making sure my guy is straight, checking with him,” Blackburn said on the video as he hugged Hunter. The two then conversed on a bench and compared their background and shared faith.A CSU athletic department official confirmed to The Post on Thursday that Hunter, the Buffs’ two-way star, and Blackburn, the Boulder native and Rams safety, got together on Wednesday to go bowling together.Hunter, a transfer from Jackson State, and Blackburn, a CSU defender who played his high school football at Fairview, were part of one of the most controversial plays of the first month of the college football season.Late in ...Broncos QB Russell Wilson shows glimpses of deadly red zone ability, but Denver needs better overall vs. Bears

The culmination of Russell Wilson’s first touchdown drive Sunday against Miami looked familiar.Eventually, it went as a mere footnote under a South Florida avalanche of points. All the same, it’s instructive of the veteran quarterback’s play early in his partnership with coach Sean Payton.Up to this point on Denver’s second possession, Wilson had completed four of five passes for 49 yards. An in-rhythm dart to Jerry Jeudy for 15 on the first play of the drive. Then a slant to Courtland Sutton for 11. Then to Javonte Williams for 17. A shallow cross to Sutton before a tight-window, contested incompletion to Chris Manhertz in the end zone.Everything on time and within the designed framework of the play. But then on third-and-6 from the Dolphins’ 12, edge rushers Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb used power rushes to collapse the pocket. Wilson stepped up, hoping to hit Sutton on an in-breaker. With the traffic around him, he scooted out of the pocket to the right, floated toward the si...Former CSUF employee admits to killing boss to conceal $200K embezzlement scheme

As another government shutdown looms bringing the possibility of the closure of our nation's parks, a new report claims that the Trump Administration forced one Southern California National Park to stay open during the last shutdown, despite "chaos and destruction" to the park's delicate ecosystem. The report, published by the Guardian, cites emails exchanged between National Park officials, including David Smith, superintendent of Joshua Tree National Park, during the 2018-19 government shutdown. The emails, which were obtained through a public records request, detail how then-Interior Secretary David Bernhardt allegedly overruled park leadership to keep Joshua Tree open, despite a staff of only nine people working and National Park officials previously granting permission to close if visitor safety was at risk. After the government shutdown began and prior to the Smith's decision to close the park, Joshua Tree experienced a holiday rush, with visitors taking advantage of the park's s...Pedestrian killed in 2-vehicle crash at West L.A. adult care center

By Kate Brumback and Jeff Amy | Associated PressATLANTA — Former President Donald Trump will not seek to get his Georgia election interference case transferred to federal court, his attorneys said in a filing Thursday, three weeks after a judge rejected a similar attempt by the former president’s White House chief of staff. The notice filed in federal court in Atlanta follows a Sept. 8 decision from U.S. District Judge Steve Jones that chief of staff Mark Meadows “has not met even the ‘quite low’ threshold” to move his case to federal court, saying the actions outlined in the indictment were not taken as part of Meadows’ role as a federal official. Meadows is appealing that ruling.Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges, including an alleged violation of Georgia’s anti-racketeering law, over his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He was indicted last month along with Meadows and 17 others. The notice, filed in state cour...Latest news
